Adding oil to engine

Go to youtube.com and search for "adding oil to F-550". There should be a video showing where the oil fill cap is. It usually has yellow writing saying the viscosity, 5w20 or similar, as well as a crude picture of an old time oil spout that looks a bit like Aladin's lamp.

Typically there's an upper and lower line or hatched area. Top is full. Bottom usually is add 1 qt. for a gasser. check with vehicle relatively level and not running for a min or 2 to allow all the oil to drain back down to the pan for an accurate reading.

If you can't find a friend or neighbor to help you, driving it a little low on oil like that won't kill it just to get it to a place that can check it for you. And you can watch and know for sure. I can't imagine a mechanic charging you to top off if you brought your own oil and just didn't know where to put it.

If all else fails, I'd be happy to help if you're close enough to me. Don't know if you want to trust some guy from the internet, but the offer is there.

Thank-you every one for your responses. Dip stick does show that it is a little more that a quart low. I will check the Right side under the hatch tomorrow. That is where I thought I saw him doing it one time, but I did not see the spot when I looked the first time. Will check again and take pictures if necessary.

Mine is an older (1998) V-10, and the oil fill is on the left side (viewed from the front) of the engine near the firewall, yellow in color, and clearly marked "Engine Oil".

Take it to a parts store, service station, repair shop. Any one of those places will show you how to check and add oil if needed.....for free.

Be sure that the vehicle is parked on a level surface when checking the dipstick. Without a photo, we can't give precise details on how you would add oil, but it should be very simple.

Are you sure it needs oil?
The lube oil level indicator (aka dip stick) was usually on the engine left (driver) side and had a yellow ring for a handle. They were in three possible places along that side. Front, Mid and Rear. Have light as sometimes it is hard to see the tube with the stick out. It should be marked "Full, Add and Maybe Add2".

I only saw these engines when they were not in a vehicle, but all the 6.8 Fords that I dealt with had the oil fill on the right (passenger) side cam cover. The cap had yellow markings. For some applications, the the fill was remote with a hose, but always on the right side.

Do not add a whole quart if the level is not at the add mark. This family of engines does not like being over filled.

You could try searching the web for a Ford owner's manual for that year F-550, with the gas engine. Engine bay layout and maintenance procedures should be the same (or very similar).

OK, on edit, I'm not so sure about my assumption about similar engine bay layout above. I didn't realize that a Rexhall Aerbus was a class A, but the suggested action may shed some light on your situation anyway.
