- Vixen21ExplorerI love my Corelle and in 15 years of using it I have broken exactly 1 bowl.
I wouldn't be without it. - SCVJeffExplorer

Oh yeah it does! Glass doesn't age.. All it takes is an impact in the right place and it doesn't necessarily have to be hard
Corelle doesn't usually shatter until it gets older. I find when mine starts shattering, it's just time to get a new set. (Which is usually quite a few years in between purchases!) - 2oldmanExplorer II

I don't know about down south, but there are much better plates available state-side.
There are few things sadder than a Mexican/Chinese paper plate. Put a hotdog in it and it the plate resembles a hammock. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorer:( I started off with a brand-new set and broke my first plate less then a week later. There are few things sadder than a Mexican/Chinese paper plate. Put a hotdog in it and it the plate resembles a hammock. I will check out the "Open House". Being single I always have leftovers to nuke. Scraps go into compost trash has to get hauled three miles. Put potroast on a paper plate then finding you ate part of the plate is no fun either :)

- Barbilou_and_FuExplorerI researched this dilemma ad nauseum when we first went full-time in 2005, having experienced the "Corelle-shatter". Decided to spring for the somewhat pricey new Tupperware line called Open House. (Now discontinued but available on Amazon and Ebay.) The plates, cereal bowls, and glasses were big, microwaveable, and I still have all of them.

It sure does. :E
No suggestions but that unbreakable stuff sure does shatter into sharp little slivers. I think we're better off with the breakable stuff.
But we still prefer Correll ware over anything else. Only broke two pieces in forty years. ;)
Of course there still is GI mess kits! Indestructible metal but not microwavable. :B - SCVJeffExplorer

Dinnerware like Corelle or Duralex which are made from tempered glass. Break RESISTANT and microwave safe
Or Dinnerware made from Melamine. Plastic therefore NOT microwave safe
SO how much microwaving do you do? - louiskathyExplorerNordic Ware is Microwave Safe and unbreakable...but is thin and stains
Melamine is not microwave safe.
There's nothing wrong with good quality paper plates...
