another Nor'easter coming through in a couple of days. They are calling for hurricane force winds and 45-50cm of the fun stuff.....Winter isn't over yet. LOL

It's not a commentary on your engineering ability or your construction skills, but this thread reminded me of this site. Actually, I think you thought it out a little and everthing looks pretty square and parallel.
On another note, off topic, if your canoe is made of Royalex, it may be worth more than you think. A tree fell on our dock this winter and I had to get replacement values for one of our canoes. I noticed the prices for Royalex boats were going up, so I checked around. Royalex will no longer be manufactured as of next month. I paid $700 for my boat about 7 years ago. Insurance gave me almost 3 times that.

Well not exactly I posted after the fact, after the update… I applaud his ability to keep the snow load off and coming from snow country know how daunting that can be…
but still what he built was cheap and frugal, but it was also under built, and poorly designed, and I still agree with the ”quote” naysayers… I am not sorry the predictions didn’t come to bare but that doesn’t change the fact… even a blind squirrel will get lucky and find the nut sometimes…
my major concern was the poor anchoring and wind both at the house and to the ground… and I would not like to hear someone was hurt from flying debris from this setup…
and yes I would hope my buddies would alert me to this danger if I didn’t see it… they wouldn’t be much of a buddy if they didn’t…

They work great. Very light,extremely solid and protect the canoe very well but also very cheap. have 30 bucks in lumber and hardware.
It just sits on the front A-frame without bolts. The canoe holds it in place with the ratchet straps. the back one is bolted to the rear frame extensions. Put on about 2000 miles last year with it and it was perfect.

I always appreciate and take into account all suggestions. It has stood there for 6 months now and I have cleaned it off twice and wind???...it has been through wind like you would never believe. This is East Coast Canada. Wind is a given. This has been a crazy winter with many a Nor'eastern blowing through. It is solid.
