Am I Set Up OK, Using Blue Ox Sway Pro WD Hitch

Ran the Ford F150 (2015 Crew Cab 4x4, Ecoboost) and Travel Travel Trailer (Keystone Passport Grand Touring with weight spec on the door of 4770#) across the scale and came up with the following numbers:
Front Wheels Only-3300#, All 4 wheels of the F150-7060#, Rear Wheels of F150-8560#, Trailer Wheels on Scale-4800#, F150 and trailer on scale together-11900#. I did not unhook the trailer to weight the separate components so this is with the weight distributing hitch hooked up. Does it seem that things are adjusted properly? Wish I would have weighed the F150 separately but did not have time as the scale was busy. As I am a little new at this I would appreciate any help I can get.

  • Check this link for the nearest CAT Scale to you. Here is a link to How To Weigh On A CAT Scale. Scroll down to the truck and trailer. You want to make sure you don't pull to far forward, placing the drive (rear) wheels on the steer axle scale.

ALSO.... take a broom handle or the cheater bar for the wd hitch to reach the call button.

I usually go inside first and tell the attendant I want to weigh three times, and can I pay after all three. After weighing the truck only on the third pass, have your wife go in to pay and get the slips while you hook the truck and trailer back up!

Without knowing the truck only front axle weight it is hard to say if your wd hitch is adjusted properly.

Weighing 3 times total is the best way to get all the weights.

1: Truck & trailer ready to roll down the road.
2: Truck & trailer, but with wd bars unmatched, in the back of the truck.
    3. Truck only. Leave hitch in and wd bars in bed.

Did you use a CAT Scale that has 3 scales for the steer axle (front), drive axle (rear), and the trailer axles?

Knowing those weights we can figure out if you are restoring the proper amount of lost front axle weight (truck only fa weight to trailer hooked, but wd bars unlatched fa weight), and what your loaded tw is.

Not totally understanding your posted weights either. Front axle, total truck weight (all 4 wheels), but what is rear axle 8560#???? Lost me there.

If possible, be as close to loaded for a trip as possible (if not headed out on a trip) for more accurate weights.

It was a grain elevator scale, just one big long scale, and I wonder if when I thought it was only the 2 rear wheels of the F150 on the scale that the trailer or at least the front axle of the tandem axle trailer was not also on the scale. It was busy so did not have much time to weigh so will have try it again to get the proper readings, sorry!
