How far into the campsite are we talking, less than 5 feet along the road? Or actually walking into the site and letting the dog go in the outside living area? Sometimes when walking along the road a dog will just stop to go, can't help that and if it's in reasonable distance to the road I don't worry about it, both as a dog walker and camper, as long as I/they pick it up. Now if it is "in" the campsite, that's a problem!
We find that rarely do folks use the 6-foot leash rule. They extend that leash out 20 feet into campsites.
We love to see when owners walk their dog and that dog walks right along side them. They get to an unoccupied area and that's when the dog relieves himself. They pick it up and move along, disposing of it properly. Dogs can easily be trained this way.
Also - kids walking dogs. They don't, as a rule, pick it up.We have asked many to pick it up and they're shocked. What? Actually pick it up? They don't even carry a bag. That's just a cop-out for parents to not have to do it.
