Just out of curiosity (I'm quite happy with my Equilizer) how does it do with moving the proper amount of weight forward when used with lightweight trailers?
Proper amount of weight transfer - varies from one tow vehicle to another.
I emailed back and forth with folks at Andersen. Specifically, about FALR (front axle load restoration). Their terminology was "this hitch is a little soft on FALR, on trailers with heavy tongue weight".
My scale numbers (with Andersen hitch) have shown FALR to be about 50 percent. The owners manual for the truck, does not specify a number for FALR, it specifies front and rear bumper measurements. At 50% FALR, my measurements are within the truck specs. My tongue weight varies, between 950 and 1100 lbs, depending on amount of water onboard.
The weight distribution is increased or decreased, based on amount of compression on the springs. I would assume, if it gets 50% FALR with 1100 lbs tongue weight, the same amount of compression should get a much higher percentage with 5 - 600 lbs tongue weight.
Owners manuals on some newer trucks, only call for 50% FALR.
