We winterized ours by pumping antifreeze through the lines. Took about a gallon. Due to the way the hose sat in the bottles, we used only about half of each bottle. So we had two half bottles left. Poured them down the tank. The stuff is less than $3 gallon. Matter of fact I bought 4 gallons of it for $2.58 at Walmart. Have a couple more gallons to use in case we decided to dewinterize in the middle of the winter and need to rewinterize.

I usually keep mine closed, it looks better. For a while I left it open because I thought I might have a leaking seal and it's easier to check if it's open.

Closed. Only because it will slow down the evaporation of the anti-freeze even though it is not air tight.

Definitely leave some antifreeze in the bowl, I leave about an inch. I also put some in the black tank after rinsing it as well as I can. Probably between 2 cups and a quart.

It will not ruin the seal. You could possibly ruin the seal by NOT pouring antifreeze on top of the valve.

It's part of my winterizing procedure.
