Antifreeze sets off CO/LP alarm?

This has happened two years in a row now (same 2 years that I've had my Starcraft 235fb). I add RV antifreeze to my lines, and put it in the traps and the toilet. It has that typical RV antifreeze smell. Within about 10 minutes, the CO/LP alarm goes off (the light indicates it is an LP problem).

However, the LP is shut off at the tanks and the shore power is not on. I open the doors and windows of the RV, and after a few minutes, the alarm goes off. It doesn't come on again after that.

The only thing I can figure is that the RV antifreeze is causing the alarm to trigger. This has happened in the exact same way for the 2 years I've had this trailer. The alarm never goes off during the camping season. Anybody else have this situation?

This was discussed in the other thread on blowing out lines.

RV antifreeze will set off propane alarms.

It takes nothing more than water vapour to set off a CO detector. That's why they say to mount them 10+ feet from a shower or other source of humidity.
  • That pink stuff is nasty. I put it in p traps but not my fresh water lines. JMHO.
  • Is your dog in the camper while you are doing the winterization?
