Any experience towing an Oreion Reeper?

Hello everyone, we just got our first motorhome (Class C Sprinter) and are looking for a very light weight vehicle to tow behind. Does anyone have any experience or talked to anyone about towing an Oreion Reeper with wheels down?

Any comments or experiences would be appreciated.
  • No, but here is one that does:

    Too many toys out there!
  • It looks like a Volkswagen "Thing" .... on steroids, but does it float? :B

  • I have done a lot of research on the street legality of the vehicles. They can be registered in about all the states. Most states are registering as LSV, but some states are registering as dune buggy or mini-truck. If they are registered as LSV then they are limited to 25 -45 mph roads depending upon the state laws. Some people are putting street tires on them and riding them on local roads posted up to 45 - 55 mph without any major issue from law enforcement.

I was interested due to the low weight (1,450 lbs) due to only having a 3500 lbs tow capacity on the motorhome. Since they can't be towed wheels down, I need to either look for something else .... or trailer. Did not want to have hassle of storing trailer at home or on the road.
  • I called Oreion and got the answer to towing wheels down .... The answer was NO. I guess I need to look elsewhere or trailer one.

    Thanks for your comments.

That's an ATV,not a highway vehicle. I notice that there's no language at the home webpage that points this out specifically, but the info is sort of "there", if between the lines.

I'm not sure you can even buy plates for it in many States, which would be required for four-down tow. I did see language at the for-sale site that it's "On road legal as a Low Speed Vehicle in New York ", whatever that means.

All of that aside, one look at those tires tells me that they're pretty much for off road (if they're highway legal at all). In addition to the aggressive pattern, tread rubber on tires like that tends to be on the soft side. I think you'd wear much of it off in very short order towing it four down.

Seems to me contacting Oreion directly with questions about Recreational Towing would be the first step.
Their website is a masterpiece of little information. I am certainly not impressed.
The vehicle, however, is interesting. The MSRP could make me lose interest very quickly though. The website has no indication (that I could find) as to what the MSRP might be.

A dealer in Upstate NY has the Reeper listed as "starting at $14,999".

  • Call the manufacturer and ask them. No one is going to be building a baseplate for it so right off you have a problem towing it 4 down. Does it have a transfer case that can be shifted in to neutral? Again, your best bet is to call the manufacturer.
