Any good fuel companies for a good fuel card for travel?

Chevron says I'm 'time honored member' since 1977, but traveling out of state and using the card only once they shut the card down. Then trying to call them to find out why the embarassment at the pump? They are impossible, absolutely impossible to figure out what they are saying besides the beyond horrible waiting on the phone for 20 mins trying to get it straightened out. Always pay my bill, always went out of state and used it at least twice a year, but now they cut it off because they say I stole my own card.

I want to dump them after all these years, but don't want another Chevron scenario Company. As always cash is great and do have Pacific Pride, but are few and far between and often hard to find.

Any great companies out there that know how to win you over make you happy to deal with?
  • Not pertinent to the Chevron issue in particular, but if you’re complaining about CC companies shutting your card off, you must have never had you card skimmed or card info stolen. It happens many many times daily around the world. What should cc companies do? Cater to the old grouch that doesn’t understand that ?
Our cards get hacked multiple times a year. It’s jsut the cost of having a card in the 21st century.....
As far as fuel cards, idk what you’re trying to accomplish. Are there significantly better discounts with fuel cards than the best CC discounts? How much does that save per year vs driving around looking for the right station? How many times isthe right station just not available.
Imo branded fuel cards have limited usefulness, like urban commuting only. Unless you’re packing a series of cards for every situation and locale.
  • We have always 'called' the gas card Co, and told them we were traveling and the area and duration. No more long svc.sta. stops

    JM2¢ ~~ YMMV
  • our family has the pen fed credit card with fuel rebate. swipe at the pump and at the end of the month we get a credit of 5% of fuel purchases applied to the balance. so we get the rebate every month, no hassle. combine that with the Kroger fuel points makes a difference. To get the 5% you MUST swipe at the pump, not go inside. I've never had an issue with the card even when we used it multiple times at the same station same time, although we never use it more than twice at a given station. Never have called to let them know we were traveling, just enter zip code and purchase gets approved.

they give lower rebates on other purchases, but we only use the pen fed card for fuel purchases. Have other cards that are better for other rebates.

We are what the card companies call "credit card deadbeats" pay the balance every month and get the rewards.

Pacific Pride.. that was a joke for me. The office I dealt with had so much trouble email billing me they just gave up. So I dumped them.

I dumped Chase bank after they put me through the wringer, twice, on the phone, when I made a Moneygram purchase. Evidently asking me 20 questions on the phone is their idea of good security. My favorite part is when they shut down your card without telling you.

Yes, security is getting more difficult, witness how when you log into some sites they send you a code to your phone. But that's their problem to deal with. I NEVER have a problem with either my debit or American Express cards at the pump. I stick with that. I haven't used gas cards in years.

Fuel companies have apps now, instead of hard cards. You may try that.
