The paper shredder idea is a good one, I'll have to try that this time!
This weekend, I got lucky. We have our RV parked in one park for a couple of months, so my mother in law went up the day before DH and I did. When we pulled up, she had a fire going already! So my new answer to how to start a fire with wet firewood? Get your MIL to do it! :W
The wood had actually dried out quite a bit (it has been under the RV, but we had a lot of rain and wind a few weeks ago so it was pretty wet). So that helped... then she used some paper and some firestarters I made (lint and wax in egg cartons) and started with the smallest/driest pieces of wood and kept going from there.
