Why not just build a reinforced receiver hitch and use WD?
Because this setup would work way better. My car can "pull" and "stop" just fine. It just can't carry the weight. That is why these things were invented for cars just like mine. It will carry the load.
I thought about airbags but I think this would work much better because it carries the load. All the car has to do is pull.
I understand the logic. Just be careful, I read somewhere that the tongue dolly could tend to try and push the rear end around as it follows groves in the pavement.
I think a WD hitch using the old set up technique of achieving equal squat would apply to your car. That's why they use to set those hitches up with equal squat on all four wheels, that would project the force of the tongue weight to all the wheels of the car, and would probably only add 100-200 lbs of load per tire....I think the old calculation was 25% on the front axle, 50% on the rear, and 25% projected back to the trailer axles when this technique is used.
But, people towed with the dolly for years and it would in the very least be an effective way to tow a heavy trailer.
Keep us posted on the status of your project! Looks very interesting.
Thanks!
