Anyone tow a mobile office?

We're a large family, 8 kids (0-15) with a sports coach DP with the bunks. (Sleeps 10 if the mix includes kids, 7 if they are adult sized). We spend a total of about 3 months a year in this beast. We've tried to make the MH as comfortable as home, with obvious exceptions.

As far as work. Seems like the only time I can get any work done is to lock myself in the bathroom! I really miss my office where I can hide out.

I'm thinking about taking a smaller car hauler trailer, and converting the front into an office complete with solar/batteries. Then I can bring a car with too. And/Or the bicycles.

Or

Taking a smaller TT. Converting it to an office, keep the bathroom, fridge, and maybe a bunk to kick the teens out to. Extra fridge and bathroom would be nice for a growing up family of 10.

Anyone have any experience with this?
  • Haven't done it with a TT, but have used vans and box trucks converted to office space. Usually on those projects, we would sleep in hotels.

As for the small TT idea, if you are going to kick some of the kids into it, and use it as extra living space, then it isn't really your office, and you are back to where you started. Been there, done that, with my office/den doubling as a recreational space for the kids, overflow guest room, and storm shelter. Back to looking for office space again.

I was looking at the JAYCO X213 very seriously a couple years back with the idea of converting the bunk area into a small storage just inside the storage door and the rest converted into an L-shaped desk office/radio console/computer area setup.. Complete with roll up office chair.

This is the JAYCO X213 trailer

The floor plan would look something like this

This is the area I would be changing over...

The top of this area is the top bunk which has to be removed also..

Removing both bunk beds gives up alot of room for an office setup.

This is the L-SHAPED desk from OFFICE DEPOT I would be modifying to fit in the available space. The L-desk attachment would only have to be shortened to fit the area...

All the desktop office items have to be engineered to strap down during transport...

M computer plan was to use the DELL 17-inch laptop computer that snaps into the docking station which routes all of the dual monitors, keyboard, mouse, and speakers to the laptop. When you are not in the trailer just unsnap the laptop and take with you... Everything else stays secured on the console. There is even enough room for a nice HP printer setup with this arrangement...

My Internet connection is all handled using the VERIZON MIFI WIFI network for five connected devcices...

    food for thought

  • Nothing that fancy. I've resorted to sitting in my bedroom with a TV tray and my laptop on it. Really stinks as I have to move everything to get up and go to the potty or get a drink or anything.
  • How about a canvas tent with a portable air conditioner? Keeps it portable and provides privacy.
