I tow a trailer bumper pull with my 2500. The trailer weighs in at 10,500 to 11,500 depending on the load. I am able to pull it just fine but I set no land speed records going up hill. Getting started is not an issue and I can get up to 60 pretty quick. I will say the truck is on the edge of power pulling the unit. Also, something I saw years ago coming out of the drag strip. If your trailer breaks fail can you stop? I have been pondering that as my trailer will stop me so fast now but if it failed I am sure I would need a mile to stop. I know your looking at a 5ther which would be better on the tow than a bumper pull. Just thought I would tell you what I know. Going up the mountain passes in Oregon I am ~45 taking it easy as I have an auto. High winds and passing semis have never been a problem. with SRW. I would listen to the CW rep as I think he is on track for comfortable towing. If your temper can handle 45 getting passed then you may be ok. You may also be paying more in repair bills in the future on your TV than if you had a nice 1 ton unit.
Very well said. We too used to tow a 32 foot Komfort TT with an F250 V10. It weighed same as yours. Took it slow but it was ok even up and down hills, but going down hills worried us sometimes. Then came the fifth wheel with a dry weight around 11k. Doable? Yes, but barely and we now have an F350 DRW diesel. Glad, very glad we upgraded.
Well I just got back from the first tow with our new Pacbrake installed. Service brakes, what are those? Even in 5th at about 1,500 rpm the speed retardation was very good. Dropping into 4th, requires releasing the EB with a little throttle from time to time. We are talking descending 6% and 7% graded with 18,500# GCVW. The other side is being able to climb those grades at 55 or better.
Did you torque the two bolts that hold the exhaust to the exhaust brake. If you used an impact it can cause the housing to distort and cause sticking.
DTT installed mine on my 98 12V years ago and caused mine to stick constantly. PacBrake was great, they told me it was over torqued and sent me a new brake no charge.
I installed the new one and properly torqued it and all works fine now.
