Some places have made it illegal to film a police officer in the performance of his duty. (I think this won't fly whe it gets to the high court but .. Well.. It has not gotten there yet)
You're behind the times. This has already been ruled on by the 7th district court and SCOTUS. Anybody that say's "you can't film on public property", police included, is breaking the law.
I really don't know where all of this privacy thing came to life? You, me or anybody can go stand on the main street sidewalk of any town in the US and film anything they want. License plates, VIN numbers, people, your kids, anything. It's all free game.
OP, film away. SCOTUS says it's legal and that's good enough for me. :)
