- joeprinterExplorerWe started camping when the kids were 5- 6 ish, second bumper pull lasted until HS age, then with cheer leading, sports etc,,, set for a number of years. Now the kids are 27 28 and now we are full timing with our second Class A. Never looked back, however with the investment, you must use it or loose it..
- SpleenstomperExplorermy 16 year old said he felt "indifferent" -- he is a go with the flow kind of kid (just turning 16 this week). My 14 year old daughter has a terrific sense of adventure and loves camping. Her twin brother complains the whole time we are camping but then wants to know when we are going again.
I don't expect them to have jobs while in high school and we haven't tackled college yet. Great answers-- yes, I can see how for some it is a scheduling issue and how for some it is different configurations of k, gk, ggk. (though I am very excited to hear the GK and GGK part!!)
Thanks for the replies. Samson-- I'm Jealous about where you are now! - samsontdogExplorerAll four of our kids who are in there 50s still camp with us plus GK and GGK
Life is good !! As I type this I am sitting in the Clubhouse over looking the Ocean in Pacific City Oregon - sljkansasExplorerDS and DD still camp. DD and DIL have 4 kids and they still go camping when they can clear the calender of grand kids events. DD (25 years old) is with us right now for a short time, but still love's camping. she is teaching in western Kansas, and now engaged to a nice young man who has camped with us, but I'm not sure if it's his cup of tea.
I think it all depends on how much they like to camp. When DD was in high school she wanted to camp with us, but she had a weekend job, and we camped a little farther away that she/we were comfortable with her diving to at night. When she was in College, we found a closer CG and she would bring class mates with her, to camp with us. We never knew if it would be just her or several friends/ classmates. We all had a good time, and several of them had never camped put really enjoyed it, as we did having them out. Encourage them to bring friends, have a campfire and do campfire cooking. - rockhillmanorExplorerMake them go!
I was 16 and did not want to go on vacation with my parents and they made me go........I am 'to this day grateful' that they made me go with them.
We went out west and did Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse back when you had to climb a wooden ladder to get up there and meet the family who carved it! And on the way back one day we stayed on the banks of the Big Thompson River, CO. Changed my whole outlook on life and I believe it was that day by the river is why I RV now and have a great respect for all things nature. :C - mudhoundExplorerWe "lost" our son to girls and other teenage things at around 16 years old. He also got his 1st car then. Now, he is 26 years old and still will not go camping.
- rfryerExplorerI wouldn’t flat say they’ll stop camping with you. But in the teens there are boyfriends and girlfriends, peers, jobs, etc and that will likely reduce the camping they do. I don’t recall when my boys started phasing out. In the late teens I think. My granddaughters, now 19 and 16 don’t go with us as much because of the above factors. And the fact it’s a 1000 mile trip to even get in position to do so since they’re in OK. But even when they do stop going, the grandkids start coming along and you can start all over again.
We usually had someone along since there’s 20 years between my youngest and oldest sons. We don’t camp with our sons now, they’re scattered all over the country except for the youngest and he’s not a camper. I don’t know where he came from.:) But his DW is hounding me to take her and their son camping, they’ve never been. So that’s in the offing, I just have to steel myself to get the TT ready in this heat. - HondavalkExplorer IIThought we were going to get a smaller TT when we became empty nesters. Turns out we needed a larger unit for our kids, there spouses, and the grand kids. Life is good.
- popupcampingExplorerI would just ask them and see what they think about camping
- nohurryExplorerOur children are now 30, and 29 and we are thrilled that they still want to go with us. We're heading out in couple weeks and our DD, SIL, and three grandchildren will be going along.
