ATVs or ORVs in Campgrounds?

Anyone experience a clash in their area between ATV/ORV owners and private campgrounds? Up here public campgrounds have prohibited them for years but private campgrounds were still open to them.

Most of the time the ATVs were used for local trails or tasks within camp that would normally have required a truck/car to move something heavy/awkward around.

We have now had 2 friends in private campgrounds who saw them banned due to joyriding and damage to terrain. Apperently in both cases the owner's response was that if the ATV owners leave someone else will take their spot, so no worries for them.

So, what are people seeing out there? Are too many ATV owners causing problems that are leading to them being banned in campground?

"Clash"? Private Campgrounds are just that, Private(ly) owned, and therefore each one can set the rules as the owner sees fit, nothing to clash about, if you don't like the "No ATV's allowed" rule, don't camp there.
There are many reasons for such banishment, ranging from, noise, safety, Insurance reasons, and operator negligence.
It's been said, that the 10% will always spoil things for the 90%.
  • Not an ATV user and don't have an opinion one way or the other on their use. I have seen the damage irresponsible use can cause and I am certain this has led to prohibitive rules and restrictions. As usual a few boneheads kill what could be an enjoyable pastime.
  • From what I have seen, prohibiting ATV riding inside the RV park is common. And for that I am happy. While I have nothing against them in general (I have one), I do have a problem with people running back and forth thru the park for no particular reason other than joy riding. And even more so for those who allow their underage kids to ride them unsupervised. And I am sure these are the reasons for more restrictive rules. Some even only permit motorcycles be ridden between your site and the entrance.
