Bad Customer Service

As a former retail manager one of the issues I faced was that if a salesman sold to many of the advertised leaders they would be "counseled in proper sales techniques. It is illegal to fire a salesman for selling to many advertised leaders but they can be fired for other offenses. As a result most salesmen that are not supervised correctly will walk a sale on a an advertised item. IMHO that is what happened several years ago during a week period we went to the Camping World in Mesa AZ and we only had one question that the salesman could not answer about the RV we were looking at that kept us from buying and he said he would call back he was given 3 phone numbers and an e-mail address we even called and left two voice messages and we never heard from him.

When I bought my car last Fall, we wandered around the car lot peeking in windows, etc. I went inside to find a salesperson while my DH stayed near the car we wanted to open up. I told the salesman on the way back out that if there was any pressure at all my DH would leave and not come back. Salesman said, "understood". He opened up the car, stepped back and let us sit in and look it over and only spoke to answer our questions. We test drove it, signed the papers and drove it home. In follow-up, he let us call with questions, always friendly and helpful.

Our RV shopping has been the same. Leave us alone to wander, if we have questions or want to "deal", then we will find a salesperson.

We prefer to be left to wander on our own. The best salesperson I had met us as we came into the showroom area, introduced himself and asked what we were wanting to look at. We were very up-front with him and told him we were just starting to look and didn't know for sure what we wanted and that we would not be buying that day. He asked some follow-up questions to narrow down our desires as far as size, style, budget, etc. Since we were still trying to figure out exactly what we wanted, some was vary vague. We then loaded up in the golf cart and he took us to the area of the lot that contained the TT's we were looking for. He then told us to look until our heart was content and that he would check back with us and also left his cell phone number in case we needed to ask him something or wanted a ride back. We were probably on the lot for 3 hours. During that time, he came back around about every 30 minutes or so and just asked if everything was fine and bring some water in case we needed it. The last time he stopped by, he let us know that he had to leave, but was passing us to another salesperson and left us with her name/number. She stopped by about 30 minutes later with the same approach. No pressure what-so-ever. We actually ended up making our way back to the front on our own because the kids wanted to look at some Class A's that weren't remotely in our budget. When the second sales person saw us come in, she approached and asked if we had any questions or needed any other assistance. When we said we were good, she thanked us for coming and said that she hoped when we decided we were ready to buy, we would consider using them. Our first salesman followed up a few days later with a call to make sure we didn't have any questions. Again, no pressure at all.

Unfortunately, once we decided what we wanted, they didn't carry it so we didn't end up purchasing from them. But when we are ready to upgrade, you can bet it will be the first place we go.

General RV in Florida is a gated and fenced in dealership. You must go to the front desk and be assisted. If you are for parts then you have a parts person follow you around, if for service they send you to a room and the service guy meets you there, if you say sales... it is all over. They take you to an office and start asking what are you looking for, what do you have now, are you going to trade, are you ready to do something today? If you say I am not sure then they start with a whole another line of questions.... IF I am a first time buyer all I want to do is go look at what they have... that is not going to happen. You will not make it to the lot if they don't feel they can get the right answers out of you.

A few weeks back we stopped in McGeorges RV in Ashland to look around..
The lot is fenced in ,you must go in front doors and be greeted by desk... at that point they take you on a golf cart , when I asked to walk , they said no,, insurance regulations forbid that due to the cart traffic? :h

I could not breath without the guy asking what I said..

I much rather walk ALONE.. IF and WHEN I am ready.. I will seek out someone..

I am ok with a salesperson showing or not as long as they are attentive when you ask for help or ask to be left alone. What i dont like is where we went that had a desk at the entrance that didnt want me going past without them demanding a salesperson be there. You couldnt even walkminto the store portion without going past this person.

Being almost pounced on by the closest salesperson the instant I walk onto a lot is a huge turn off for me. However, at some point, it's not bad practice for one to come out and let their presence known, at least to be the one to stake claim on my sale. A couple of hours - a little much if you ask me. Don't follow me around, but at least pop by so say that they noticed me and they're there if I need anything. If they're not interested in the sell, I'm not terribly interested in the buy unless there is a fantastic deal to be had.

We had check in hand to purchase a new class A motorhome and we looked and looked, went into several, as they were unlocked. Any way we must have been there a good hour or 2 and I must say NOT ONE SALESMAN came up to us. We did however get a water from one of the 'runners' in golf carts. That's just sad,I was at GM dealer while back and going thru the show room while waiting for my vehicle getting fixed,not a single salesperson would ask if I need any info on cars or whatever,,just pathetic.
.it was quite shocking as few weeks back I was in Tokyo and the level of service in every store ,restaurant and even a lowly convenience stores where btw all fast food is freshly made daily and excelent quality is just mind blowing,,
and the store clerk actually welcomes every customer and thanks you again when leaving the store..

Also I should mention that Japanese don't allow tiping,in fact would feel offended if one tried to tip ..
