battery tender?

We've just returned from a 12,000+ mile journey, towing our little Suzuki X90. Wasn't paying attention one day, the radio must have inadvertently been left on in the tow'd and drained the battery deader than dead. I plan to get a Brake Buddy battery tender installed and was wondering...whenever we parked for the night I would turn off the car and unplug the BB. If I have a battery tender installed, would I be able to just leave the car in accessory overnight, or would this drain the coach battery?
  • We have a charge line wired in our harness so the motorhome alternator charges our CRV battery as we drive. I wish this had been popular years ago as I would have done it then. No more pulling fuses or worrying about it at all.
  • when I used a brake buddy I just carried along a small jumper/starter battery device to plug it into. I wanted the jumper along anyhow.

Is it a requirement to have it in ACC mode while being towed ??

If so, just that can and will drain the battery over time without the "tender".

And I see no reason to leave it in ACC when not actually required.
Especially not if that will mean leaving the key in the ignition.
If the tender is well designed, it should not drain the coach battery but will the toad. Why take a chance ??

I second the suggestion for an "EMERGENCY" portable battery.
They can be had for about $100 with jumpers, compressor and small inverter. One with LI batteries would be better but MUCH more expensive.
