Best road atlas

I bought that Motor carrier Map and by god the type is so micro small!!! What a joke, beware of that before you buy one.

It's type is 10 times smaller than the regular size Rand Mcnally. So the Motor Carrier map which is certainly not cheap got chucked into the first garbage can I found.

I also like my states to be on ONE page not split up over 2 or three. :R
I want to be able to see at a glance where I am headed 'within' the whole state on one page and type big enough to see without having to pull over to read it.

I finally found one I could actually read and the entire state on one page. The type is "2 times larger" than RandMcnally Big type and each state is fully viewable on one page. Find it at Kangaroo Gas Stations. :W

That's why the Benchmark Maps Atlases are so good ... they use an entire large format (regular atlas book size) for EACH state. You can hold it right in your lap while going down the road (the passenger!) and have super-detail of each state right at your finger-tips.

Michelin Atlas is the best for this.

for a paper atlas I concur...it's the best.

Since we travel MOSTLY the back roads, not main highways we've found that an atles always has the same limitation (size) making it impossible to show those minor highways. We get maps for an area we're going and get the whole picture though we do use (about any brand) of atles for general planning.

We use the Benchmark state atlases also - have about 18 states that we often travel in. They are invaluable when going off blacktop. Having ended up on a bombing range in New Mexico once relying on a GPS, I no longer leave home without detailed paper maps.

We use Benchmark Map Atlases because they go well beyond a road atlas in what they show, as we like to know about everything out there ... not just roads. We combine Benchmark Map Atlases for each state with over 800,000 Points of Interest in our Garmin navigator in order to get where we want when RV'ing:

Forest River gave me one with my new fifth wheel and it's actually quite good. It has good maps of all provinces and states and major metropolitan areas. Also shows the national parks of Canada and the U.S.

Walmart Rand McNally Atlas. Get a new one every year. Lists all the Walmart locations and whether they have gas stations or diesel fuel. Buy a nice cover for it.

I find the FMCA atlas "best", but still don't like it....I want one that uses the same scale for all states !
