Big Cities, what areas are safe?
I don't want this to be a thread about Second Amendment rights, or how big of a shotgun is needed to be safe. And I don't mean for this question to have any racial implications. It's just a question...

San Francisco is much easier to get around without a car than it is with. As others pointed out Oakland is across the bay so not likely you will end up there by accident. Keep in mind though that as bad as parts of Oakland can be it is not all bad. Last time I went to an A's game there against the Angels I had a great time (I'm an Angels fan). The A's fans around us were really great. Raiders game maybe not so inviting!
Any city will have good and bad. I usually inquire where I am staying to find out what they recommend. I have had my GPS route me through some pretty bad neighborhoods. I just kept going and did not stop.
