This thread really caught my attention as on saturday the wife and I went to the funeral of an retired Oakland. CA city policeman friend who'd moved back here with his wife after his retirement from the Oakland police force several years ago. Originally born and raised here in Michigan and moved to Oakland after college with his law enforcement and criminal justice degree and his wife. He'd told us many times that "the ONLY safe place anywhere near Oakland, CA was far from it." "It's a very violent city and extremely crime ridden."
