Bike Rack - Anyone use this one?

I'm looking at alternatives other then throwing the bikes in the back of the truck or attaching a bike rack to the rear bumper of the TT. This Rack allows you to tow a trailer as well as use the bike rack.

Has anyone used one or seen one being used?

Have never seen that make/model but do use a hitch mounted bike rack, they make a whole bunch of them, some are designed to mount under a ball hitch, some to clamp on or slip over the 2" bar like that one.. mine is,, Well custom attached, but works the same way.

There should be no problem with 'em.

I have only had one problem with mine..

I drive a class A. the receiver is welded to a cross member which is bolted to the frame rails. the bracets at teh frame rails broke.

    NOT the bicycle rack's fault.
  • When we had our pop-up and Durango, I just used a Thule carrier hung from the back of the Durango. It was close, but worked just fine.
  • I have the same bike rack. It has served me well for 6 years. Used it to bring my bike to South Texas last month.
  • Thanks for the heads up on not being able to use it with aWD hitch. It says it needs 1 1/2 inches of hitch to clamp on. I'm going to put my hitch on and see how much is there.
This looked so promising, but I guess it was too good to be true. I guess my next best bet is to get someone to weld a reciever to the TT frame at the rear and get a regular receiver hitch bike rack.

    Thanks everyone.
  • I have that exact rack, wanna buy it? The clamp bolt on the bottom broke the first time it was used. It is a great idea but apparently can't hold up to the leveraged weight and bouncing. I will probably just have it welded to a draw bar rather than tossing it.

Like already mentioned, you cannot use it with a weight distribution hitch head. I used it while towing a small utility trailer.
  • I have something similar.

The problem is that it won't work on a WD hitch. You need 2 or 3 inches of a straight 2x2 extension between the receiver and the start of the hitch.

I'm building a bracket so that mine will mount behind the propane bottles but clear of the batteries.

Yes, a jackknife could be an issue - but there are literally thousands of folks driving around with a bike rack between the TV and front wall of the TT.

It just means you have to be a bit extra careful - and always be aware of what you are towing and where it is turning.

Only worry I'd have is if I were doing a sharp jack-knife back-in... the bikes would be introduced to the TT rather intimately and rendered into postmodern art rather quickly.

I think if you were turning that sharp, you have bigger issues to deal with.
