- mbrookingExplorerWe use Oxy-Kem found at Walmart. Easy to use, just drop a pack in the toilet and add a tankful of water.
- Golden_HVACExplorerGo to CampingWorld.com and check out the black water chemicals. They will neuteralise the smells.
I use something with "Orange" in the name. It smells like oranges, and controls the odors well.
I have no idea what Calgon will do to the tanks, and probably nothing to control odors.
I do not treat my grey tank, unless in summer it gets hot and the water starts to smell a bit. Then a ounce of black water treatment will kill off some of the odor causing bacteria. Usually it is not needed below about 95F, or when in full hookup campgrounds (when the back tank valve is kept closed and grey tank valve kept open).
Also worthy to mention is keep the black tank valve closed until the tank is around 1/2 full, then drain. Otherwise the solids can build up in the tank, while the little liquid drains past it. Fill with water to around 3/4 full before draining, so that all the solids will come out of the tank quickly with all that water.
Fred.
