Black Tank Chemicals for High Temperatures

I'm with others...if you are having odors (even in hot weather), you have a problem that should be addressed. I highly suspect that your Air Admittance Valve (AAV) is not operating properly. Typically you can find this valve under a sink (kit/bath) and should be replaced. It comes right off and you can find replacements at Home Depot or other hardware stores.

There are other culprits that provide tank odors to penetrate the interior of an rv, but the AAV is the most common. A plugged (or partially plugged) roof vent tube, poor seal on toilet flange, etc.

Adding chemicals is a band aid fix...and can get expensive. How much $$ do you think you have spent on toilet chemicals in the past 14 years??

Best to locate the problem and fix that before throwing your $$ down the toilet.

I camp in the Florida heat frequently - even last August when the temps in Jacksonville were constantly in the upper 90's - we spent almost a week at Hanna. All I use are Drop-ins. If there was even the slightest hint of a toilet smell, believe me, I would be informed of it.

I would never put bleach into a black tank, or down a sunk in an RV for all the money in the world. A little bleach mixed with water is ok to use to sanitize your fresh water system.

I discovered the wonderful world of HIGH TEMPS in summer in Florida just last year. I was in a site with no sewer connection. No problem have camped that way before up North. Dump when full. NOT.

Well it's a whole different game when doing that in a hot hot weather state like Florida!

I use CampaChem for my black tank.
I found adding "2" bottles instead of one does the job in hot weather.

Note they make two different types and labels look similar. Look for the words 'powerful odor control'. Really eliminates odor instead of just adding those disgusting perfumes like some of the natural ones.

If plain water doesn't work for you, then use bleach. It's cheap, readily available, and very effective.

I never use anything but water. Haven't used a chemical in many years. Usually they stink more than anything. I dump my tank twice a week when I'm sitting still or before leaving if we're on the road. I flush it good with lots of water. NEVER have a problem. I usually stink more than the toilet....
