While pool chlorine is stronger than household bleach, you are using a WHOLE LOT LESS of it to sanitize your tank, so it evens out.
It also has a much longer shelf-life than household bleach and that one bag/bottle you buy will last a lifetime. You can even keep it in your "emergency kit" for water purification: chlorine vs. bleach
