Blue Ox Tow Bar Not locking

On this last trip, I am having difficulty with the right bar locking. I have to pull it by hand to lock while someone else is inching forward. If I was by myself, I would be stuck. Anyone else have difficulty with this? Any advise?

  • During our trip to Alaska one of the legs on our Blue Ox Aventa tow bar would not lock in the open (towing) position. I removed the rubber boot and found that a couple of turns on a screw-like adjustment on the locking lever was all that was needed. You might want to take a look at that.
  • That is great advice to call Blue Ox. These were just installed about 10 months ago. Since I am 1200 miles from home, that is a good temp fix. They do lock manually when I help them out while another is driving while inching forward. Then we watch on turns through the rear camera to make sure there are no problems.

Yes, good idea with the safety cables. Those are under the tow bar, however, on mine. Thanks.
  • I have had trouble with my safety cables actually holding the lever down not allowing it to lock. I always make sure the cables are under the lever, not over it.
  • Spring is broken - I called Blue Ox and they FedEx me new pins at no charge. I had a local shop put them in for me. $64 in New Mexicao. The temporary fix they gave me was a block of wood and duct tape to hold the handle up in the locked position. This worked for me for two days of towing until I found a shop to install them.

If in doubt call Blue Ox there customer service is legendary.
