Boondocking spots--finding them any ideas

How do you find the way back remote boondocking places?

  • There is a Forum on this site just for boondocking. You need a password tho..it's all very hush hush and secret. That sharing of site info...shhhhhh

  • We have stopped at the local Forest Service and asked about new spots .
We tow a 21T that is about 24 foot OAL pulled by a regular 4wd diesel pickup .
Our boondock spots are different than what the pickup campers can use .
We mostly camp along a stream or lake and often the Elk hunters already have a path worn from the gravel road .
I find that no matter where we are that during the day a half dozen rigs will go by on a weekend , but not more.
It's not like it is a freeway , after all .
  • The BLM has an excellent map feature (name of it escapes me).
  • We just look for USFS or BLM roads, explore the road, find an offshoot, then look for a flat site that is suitable. I know there are motor vehicle use maps that you need to know about. Also, we are very careful about trespassing on private property. One night, however, we stayed at a photo location too long waiting for the magic hour. The gov't shutdown was in effect so couldn't stay at the nearby rustic campground so we wandered on a backroad until we found an offshoot then camped. The next morning we woke up on some ranchland but one pickup that drove by just waved. And, we are careful to avoid logging and mineral exploration areas. Those big trucks don't want to stop.

Btw, you may want to post this in the boondocking forum.
