Bought some hearing aids today(UPDATE)

See post on second page Please.
I have tried hearing aids three time in the last 20 years and never could stand them. Last night I went to Costco and was tested and given a demo of some brand new ones. They are Quintra models from Rexton(Siemens) and after the test and programming I was sent out into the store to see if they helped. I almost left without returning them. One of my biggest problems was highly amplified background noise, not with these. I could talk on my cell without using the speaker, hear individual voices in a crowd and a host of other good things I haven't know for decades.

I have a great HMO but they own the distributor that you have to use and I am entitled to free aids and disability due to service related problems. Pass on the HMO, not good people dispensers, Passed on VA, I have a great plan and a great retirement and there are other that don't and need the VA money more than I. These aids are fantastic, can't wait for delivery of mine in the next two weeks.

Are they very expensive? They say you have to buy expensive ones to get good ones.

Not true anymore thank goodness! Unlike the OP not all of us....probably most of us can't get the smoking deal that he got. He is very fortunate without doubt! That is really great! I know myself a lot of the reason I went so long without was the shear cost. For whatever reason my insurance never covered hearing aids which I think is incredible but I digress.....you can now buy very affordable aids at MDHearingaid.com. I don't get any kickbacks from this company but I should as much as I recommend them! They now have digital aids. The company is outstanding and customer service is second to none. I've been using their aids now for years.
  • I will take a guess on the price... $3,000 for the pair. Am I close?

Same here. What did they cost?
  • Great news on the aids!! I'm always happy to "hear" of people taking the plunge and just getting a set. I resisted for many years, mostly because I thought I was to young to be having to wear them! I got my first set when I was 20 and stopped wearing them but now I've been wearing them steady since I was about 40 and I haven't looked back. I know you didn't ask for advice but I would like to offer some to you anyway because I would hate to see you get discouraged. Wearing them in the real world is different than just for a short time in the store. Anyway the piece of advice I would offer is wear them in short stints. I know when I first got mine if I wore them for to long in the beginning I became very stressed and anxious. It takes your brain awhile to decipher all the new sounds you are now hearing and figure out which you want to hear and which you don't. Going to a restaurant is a great example of this. It took awhile for me to "stop" hearing all the other conversations, air conditioner, wait staff stacking plates etc etc and just listen to the folks in my party. Anyway I just know I used to get very discouraged in the beginning but I found if I gave my brain a rest by removing them and then putting them back in it was a huge help. Everyday I could wear them for longer periods of time and pretty soon.....yes I definitely have forgotten to take them out in the shower!! Why is this shower so loud???!!! Oh sh%%!!!! LOL
  • Don't forget, maybe so comfortable so forget to take them out when you take a shower!
