Brakes on new RV weak.

Bought a new Winnebago 5th wheel a couple weeks ago out of state and drove it home. Noticed brakes seemed rather weak. Tried adjusting controller with no change. By the time I realized an issue the dealer was closed and I was already on the way home.

Update:Appears to be a problem with the brakes/axle. Awaiting word back from axle manufacture. Very frustrating to not be able to use our new trailer!!

  • It's not a matter of falling victim to didn't purchase it here issue where another dealer won't work on your trailer under warranty. Local dealer will. Problem is Winnebago says brake adjustments aren't warranted even though I just took delivery of it. I cannot test the brakes on the dealers lot and as soon as I pull off the lot I have no claim.

Original dealer just called me back. Said they did a PDI and found no problems prior to my taking delivery so they will not do anything.
  • I don't know your circumstances for buying out of state with a local dealer available but your falling victim to the didn't purchase it here issue with RV manufactures and dealers. I assume you saved more than the $260 not buying local so your still money ahead

Depending on the travel time and delivery method of the FW to the original dealer your problem could be as simple as the brakes need burnished in. If not, adjusting them is easy just google it or uTube it to find out how. A jack, an hour and couple beers, your done.

If its a problem with the trailer wiring and not the adjustment then go get'em, that is not a dealer issue but a manufacture issue. This is assumming your brake controller is working properly.
  • if you got this in writing from winnie hold on to it, I didn,t no a pre inspect included a test drive? keep on them,
