Brass water adapter

Took an outside bath today in 59 degree weather - whet to connect 2nd hose and brass water adapter coupler busted with 80 PSI water. This is less than a year old and most of the corrosion was from here in Aubrey. Never seen brass go bad so fast from hard water.
Yes I use a filter on inside to RV not at ware faucet.

  • I had the same issue when in Yuma winter before last.
I have gone to all plastic fittings where possible. Changed out the hose ends, the hose Y, Corrosion happens.
We added a Flow-Pur softener this summer. Like it a lot. The top of the line fix for bad water is a Reverse Osmosis system. They use a lot of water to make what you end up with. When in place like in a park they run all the time. so pick your poison and enjoy.
  • The corrosion shown looks more like anodized aluminum. I threw away the ones like that I had. Real brass shouldn't do that and they can still be found.
  • You badly need a water softener where you are at. Your filter cannot make the water soft. From the looks of that fitting, your pipes and fixtures are taking a beating too. We have an On the Go for use where hard water is prevelant.
  • That looks like a 'plastic 'y' with brass colored fittings

    This is a brass 'y'..........Home Depot/ACE etc.

Just think what the inside of your water heater tank and electric heating element look like......yikes!!

    Get a portable water softener........
    On The GO water softener

    Flow Pur water softener

Easy set up, easy to regen......soft water (no scaling)

We use a On The Go model whenever in TX, NM, AZ etc where hard water is.
  • Hard to find good brass. All Lowes etc have iss the Chinese stuff with valves of only a quarter inch or so opening, greatly reducing flow.
There is one or two plumber suppliers around. they may have good American brass or real brass. The Chinese stuff is not true. Additionally they are plating some aluminum stuff with a brass finish and passsing it off as brass. there are no labels telling you otherwise. Pick it up and it really light. they are doing the same with some kinda pot metal or zinc. The brass finish doesn't feel smooth and when you use the connections it is gritty etc. It will develop blisters and pinholes or whatever, inside and out in a little time from hard water or soft and leak. You will probably throw it away before that and buy another one and another one.
