Busted Rib

I'm sure the doc has also told you it's a long slow healing process that will continue to plague you for quite some time. It's a frustrating pain isn't it!! There's just no way to get comfortable! Don't rush your recovery. Some times you just have to accept the fact you're hurt and allow yourself the time to heal. Rushing your recovery with that injury will only delay the recovery progress. Hang in there and keep telling yourself things could always be worse. Good luck.

Only time and medication will get you through busted ribs.... been there, done that several times over the years. Ice packs will provide some relief. Coughing, sneezing and ironically even laughing won't be much fun at least for the first couple of weeks. Lay low and hang in there, this too shall pass (kind of like a kidney stone). :E

I feel for ya bro. I rammed my rib cage into a pipe a few weeks ago. I doubt I broke anything, but it's still painful and have had to do most everything one-armed. Just takes time.

Never had a busted rib and don't pretend to know the pain your in. I can imagine that trying to twist or turn in the drivers seat would not add to your being in a relaxed state. Hang in there the injuries will heal and you'll be back on the road soon.

Now for real reason for this response. You say "I would recommend you be less clumsy then me, for one thing, and that might be easy."

I must love ribs,, broken, the same side and I think the firstone(ice fishing ) fell on a ice auger. Popped th eright shoulder out and had a friend pop it back in place reight there on the ice..

No didn't catch any fish and was 900 miles from home, 3 months w/o a doc. the next was in TX last Mar rideing a bike on a trail at Falcon where we host, Hit a rock and landed on another.
This time It felt like they all moved over to let the pain come out :S Four months later in KY they felt better.
I feel your pain and any one that gets this feeling....

DW has broken ribs twice and her collar bone in the past 2-1/2 years since we
Retied. Never has happened to me, not sure why. But her pain was bad. Tho she
Handled it well. I'm sure better than me. Our sympathies.

Wife rolled her ATV two years ago and broke 3 ribs. She was out of commission for several weeks. Never did go to the doctor, because we knew what she had done. Did go to a physical therapist for ultrasound and a tape job. Made it through only using Tylenol. Tough old bird she is. She still has occasional pain.

I've had fractured ribs a couple of times and it is a unique "think I might die" kind of pain. I assume the nervous system goes into overdrive because the ribs are protection for all those important organs. Wow, do those little buggers yell like crazy when they're hurt. Last time I ended up in the hospital coughing up blood from a bruised lung. Somebody told me the worst pain lasts about three weeks and that turned out to be true for me. For those weeks, I was watching the clock and taking pain meds every 5 hours around the clock. I slept sitting up in a recliner and holding a pillow across my middle. After that, it was just the occasional jolt (and subsequent pain pill) when I moved a certain direction. I learned to inhale, hold my breath and lift my rib cage every time we drive over railroad tracks or anything that is a bumpy ride. After a certain age, Gravity is our enemy. It just keeps trying until it finally gets us. :E That's my theory. Feel better soon!

It's a little painful reading this thread as I'm wincing while reading of mishaps!

Thanks everybody for the sympathy and well wishes. I just knew those familiar with this pain would understand why a little ole dinky bone like a rib, when cracked, would be excruciating.

Tough old bird...that's exactly how I described myself to my husband as my only pain relief is an antiflammatory. I also told him later on it was nuts to put up with this pain. I'm able to breath deeply enough to prevent pneunomia, otherwise I would 100% go for the pain meds.

Should this happen again (3rd time, 1st was after a car crash 3 years ago and I had meds) I'll go get the pain meds and muscle relaxers as soon as I reasonably can.
