I've NEVER made a major purchase based on the dealer, and wouldn't. Although in the 45 times I've gone around the sun, I've actually only ever bought 3 vehicles (toys and campers included) from a dealer. 2 of them new and 1 used and those situations were only because of the right deal. Nothing to do with the particular dealer. 2 of the 3 vehicles, we moved to a different state after purchasing.
That said, I can see some value in picking a dealer if you think you will want or need their service or support specifically. But not enough value to not buy what you want.
