I've bought two off Craigslist. Both had clear titles and I paid for them with a bank cashiers check as I wouldn't carry that much cash around. Things went very smooth. I took several hours to go over both and made sure all appliances worked correctly and no leaks. I had no surprises and used the things I found to use as I negotiated the price. Personally I like dealing on CR a great place to buy most used items.

For the/a *seller*:
Glad everything worked OK for you, the buyer.
However - Potential design for disaster.
Not everyone is honest (as you are/were), and cashiers checks can be bogus!
The buyer's bank cashier's check would/should only be acceptable if transacted at a branch of the bank issuing the cashier's check. (For verification/validity of the check, and immediate transfer of funds).
If the seller doesn't have an account there (to deposit the $) - open one on the spot (he can close it later).
Wire transfer's are much better - no cash necessary.
