- Gale_HawkinsExplorerSounds like buying out of state worked well in your case.
- huffazExplorer IIGot my new RV registered to day at AZ DMV. I did not pay any taxes in NV where I bought the RV. At AZ DMV I was charged 5.6% tax which is AZ's tax rate. I was not charged city or county taxes. If I had bought the RV in AZ I would have paid about 9.5% total in taxes, at least in the metro Phoenix area.

I'm in AZ and looking at buying in NV. Dealer said I would pay taxes in AZ when I register it and not in NV. Can anyone elaborate on this thats familiar with AZ or NV RV taxes and registration?
Aren't you glad you asked on an internet forum?..:R
There may be (only) 50 states, but depending on where the buyer..
purchased,
took delivery,
and resides - -
there could be about 150 (or more) "how to" replies.
Follow JJ's advice and talk to both DMVs - then double check your info, as DMVs have been known to be wrong!.:S
Of course.... you could just follow whatever advice you like from an internet forum..:C
If the poster is incorrect, maybe he/she will help you pay any additional taxes due..:B ..:B
~ - JJBIRISHExplorerWhile states are different it seldom amounts to double taxation as has been mentioned but maybe the difference paid in the second state, but the tax total would normally be the same…
I paid sales tax in FL so wasn’t taxed in PA that had the same sales tax rates at the time…
Now if paying tax in one state and going to a state with a lower tax rate getting the refunded amount may be more difficult… call both DMV’s not just the one… - mgirardoExplorerWe purchased our Motorhome in NJ while we lived in GA. The salesman told us if we paid cash, they wouldn't charge us sales tax because GA would charge us the sales tax when we went to register it.
Since we financed it, they charged us GA sales tax and then gave us a check in the amount of the sales tax to pay GA sales tax when we registered it.
-Michael - K_CharlesExplorerBought one in RI, they gave me a temporary transfer and I used my plate to take it home and paid tax to CT when I got it registered
Bought one in VA and they gave me 30 day temporary plates and I took it home and paid CT tax when I got it registered. - deleted-2ExplorerBought a cargo trailer in Utah with a California address.
Only paid fees and sales use taxes arriving in CA before my 21 days were up.
Utah dealer just put a 30 day temp registration on the trailer.
Bought a fifth wheel in California moving to an address in Utah.
Paid no sales tax on the fifth wheel till I registered the unit in Utah.
California gave me a 5 day movement permit. - dkreuzenExplorerI live in AZ and I bought an RV in Laughlin, NV a few years ago. In order to not pay NV tax or the taxes for AZ I had to take delivery in CA. Then I paid the AZ taxes for my town when I registered it. If you didn't buy it from a dealer you would not pay any sales tax. If you had a trade in you will have to pay the sales tax on the difference.

Most States have reciprocal agreements with other States that provide that sales taxes are due to the State where the buyer resides and registers the vehicle.
Yes, most do, but NC and Indiana do not.
Bought my trailer in Indiana and took delivery in Illinois,7 miles up the road, to avoid paying double taxes. - lbrjetExplorerJust make sure you are registered somewhere and insured before you drive it home. We bought ours in Ohio, paid a 6% sales tax, got a 30 day temporary Ohio registration and started up the insurance. Drove it 1/2 hour to our campsite and registered in Indiana and paid an additional 1% sales tax since IN is 7% and OH is 6%. If I would have had it delivered to IN then I would have paid no Ohio sales tax, all to Indiana when I registered it.
