Buying RV question

Hi everyone
yes this is my first post and hopefully you can help. I have been creeping around in the forums for a while and have got a lot of my questions answered but this one has me thinking..
My wife and I are ready to retire, house is on the market, selling everything and we are ready to roll.
We were at CW in Nashville this past weekend looking for a Class A. After explaining our plans to the salesman he stated "its better to buy the RV before you sell your house because the banks like to know where you are living and where they can find you"? Yes we will use some of the money from the sale of the house as a down payment.
Is he right? should I buy first?

Thank You

  • I agree with the above that the salesman is trying to get your business now rather than later or never. If your credit rating is good and you can put up the down payment, you can find a lender.
  • If you have a lender in mind, call as ask them.

Now might also be a good time to figure out what you're going to do about receiving your mail. No doubt your mortgage company will want a way to send you stuff.
  • Likely a sales tactic. Any salesman wants you to buy today, or come back to buy as soon as possible.

We had already downsized, gotten rid of most everything and were living in an apartment by the time we purchased our RV.

Before we we went into the dealer, we checked loan options with our credit union and personal bank.Knew our options.Turns out the dealer was able to get us a better rate from his resources. Shocked the heck out of us, in a pleasant way. The information the dealer provided let us know we were being treated fairly.

If you have not already, I recommend you research everything possible including delivery time frame, delivery prep charges, financing and insurance costs (full or part time) for the model you are considering before you return to the dealer.

You will have solid information to work with and points for negotiation should you elect to purchase.
