My guess is the bed is intentionally crowned for the same reason OTR aluminum flatbed trailers are crowned.

Not likely, the long flatbeds are crowned because they are only supported at their ends, weight will flatten, same as long beams in buildings.
Pickup beds are supported at about four points even in an 8' bed has support every 2' at minimum, should be flat.
