Summary:
Purchased B&W Turnover Ball And Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch Installed By Dealer.
In a 2015 Chevrolet 3500.
After the companion was installed I noticed the companion was tilted up at the rear of the companion.
I saw that there may be a issue and Asked the dealer if this was going to cause any problems.
He said that it would be fine, Just hook up the trailer and it would lay flat once it settles in.
I was weary and went along with that.
So I had a event in town to use My Keystone Raptor as a green room for a concert.
I drove approximately about 50 miles round trip.
So after cleaning up and taking the fifth wheel back to storage, and removing the companion. I then noticed that there were dents and cuts in the bed of the truck. OMG
I took it back up to the dealer, and they did not know how to fix it. And did nothing to find out what the problem was. At this point it was all on me to figure out what the heck is going on.
I then took it to Etrailer, and showed them the problem. I have purchased many items from them in the past. And they do installs on a daily basis. Etrailer went out of there way to help figure out what to do. They took pictures and called B&W the following monday.
Got a call Monday from Etrailer they had spoke with B&W about the problem. Keep in mind that Etrailer has not heard of this issue either. But to find out that B&W did.
There were 2 different opinions on how to resolve it.1. To sand out the crown into the pads so that the companion would lay flat into the bed. 2. To mill out the cross members to tilt the head towards the back of the truck.
Sanding of the pads was the easiest route to take, other than removing and having the thick cross member milled to drop the tilt angle of the head.
So last night we sanded out the crown in the pads and the companion laid down in the bed.
There is still the hump in the bed but at least it is laying flat. With the pads in the right orientation.
I sent the pictures to B&W this morning, Asking them what there are going to do about damages. Going to the body shop to see how much it is going to cost to repair.
All this could have been avoided if B&W would have put out a bulletin to the dealers letting them know that some Chevrolets have this problem. And a note telling them how to fix the issue. Want to thank you all for your input on my problem.
We'll see if B&W will step up. But I'm not counting on it.
