C-Pap

Both my wife and I have C-paps. Ours that we use in the RV work on 12 volt or 110 volt. I just added 12 volt plugs where we needed them. Also work nice for phone and laptop charging.

I installed two 12 volt scooter battery's in a ventilated compartment under the bed with outlet a to charge with and outlet b to operate the cpap with. Overnight usage has not been verified yet but will be in the next couple weeks.

You can make a cord that will plug into your 12 volt power outlet in your rig. Most, if not all, run on 12 volt DC through a transformer. Mine and several friends and acquaintances have had cords made up by me to run off our coach batteries.

Resmed and Respironics seem to be the most common brands. One operates on 24vdc and the other operates on 12vdc. I don't remember which is which. Both have cords available for plugging into the 12vdc power in your RV.

When shopping for a C-pap we got the 12vdc brand. The extra cord for plugging into 12vdc was $25. The 24vdc brand requires a transformer which increases the cost of the cord.

I installed the extra batteries because an 8 hour cpap operation is a large battery usage esp with the humidifier. The two house batteries can be a source but you will wind up running the generator more while boondocking.

If I can get three nights on the scooter batteries I will be happy.

Had a friend campwith us who uses a C pap. I figured it would run fine on our 400 watt inverter. It WOULD NOT START. So I connected straight to the batteries (2 group 27 deep cycles) It still would not run. I need to ask if he has 12VDC cord. Great post

You still have to recharge batteries one way or the other. I prefer to use the house batteries because they are available for all uses. Your separate system is only available for the C-pap. You increase complexity by having two separate battery systems.

We both have cpaps. We bought a 25 foot extension cord and a long block short extension cord (the kind with 4 or 5 outlets. We plug into our inverter outlet and run it into the bedroom where we both plug in our cpaps. We turn on the inverter at night. In the morning the inverter reads 50%. We need to recharge the inverter during the day (run the generator) and it is ready for the next night.

I have a ResMed CPAP with humidifier. The humidifier requires a pure sine wave AC current if running on 110. My battery bank is under the nose of the fifth wheel so it was an easy matter to run the wires up under the bed and connect a 400 watt pure sine wave inverter. I plug the CPAP into the inverter so if the power fails, the CPAP keeps right on going.

You need to investigate the back-up power source needed for your particular CPAP machine. Sometimes you need to buy a machine-specific battery, sometimes a deep cyle marine battery will work.
