The nice thing is that folks can go where they like. I don't really care for the private owned campgrounds (I find them more social than I want to be while camping and the locations not "natural" enough for my tastes). I most always go to USFS, COE or Bureau of Reclamation campgrounds and have rarely had these issues. BUT, I do research the campground first and I listen to the folks recommending it.
I remember a young co-worker once told me that she and her friends go to this great campground all the time. It was in the same area as a campground that I stay at regularly. But the differences between the two are night and day. One is very active, tons of young groups boating, water skiing, partying, etc. The other is quieter, more families and couples, boats mostly for fishing, etc. Guess which one I stay at and which one she and her friends stay at. And we both have great memories of our camping trips to that area.
