Campers who bully and badger
We're at Moccasin Creek SP GA this week. We saw an episode this week that just about outdoes any other acts of rudeness and barbaric behavior we've seen in all our years of rving.
First of all let me say that Moccasin Creek is a great park and it's the first time in all our years of going there that we've seen this behavior. The park has outstanding lake fishing with HUGE bass and other species that are released into the lake from the hatchery next to the park. I highly recommend this park.
NOTE: This park is a FIRST COME FIRST SERVED park. That means what's empty is what you get when you arrive. If you plan ahead, you can get a nice spot next to the creek.
Now for what happened. A woman came over and started bullying and badgering people camping along the creek to either trade their sites with her or put up a reserved sign when they leave so as her daughter could have a nice spot because she's coming in late.
This woman started in telling everyone in the creek sites how she's camped there for 40 years and that she had a right to the creek side sights, blah, blah, blah. Everyone told this woman NO. It's never appropriate to ask other people to break camp rules unless it's a life or death emergency. It's especially inappropriate to assume that her years of camping gives her privileges over other campers. That's not the end though.
She went over to a nice elderly couple in a class c 3 TIMES to bully and badger them to get her way. On her third trip to their site she started yelling at them that she had a right to reserve their site and that they have to put her "reserved" sign up for her after they leave.:E This nice older couple finally had to shout her off the site and force her to leave.
The older couple then reported this whacko-woman to the park ranger. To the credit of the park ranger, he immediately went to the whacko-woman and her husband and had a long talk, reminding them it's a not permitted to reserve sites under the park policy and that she is to no longer badger the other campers or she would be forced to leave.
By now the whole camp is calling this selfish person "whacko-woman" and we shared with the ranger how she had badgered the rest of us. We also went over to the nice elderly couple and gave them encouragement and support. They stayed a few more days left on schedule yesterday. We all asked this nice older couple to come back soon. All they had wanted was a little quiet fishing for their anniversary and they were very nice to everyone the whole time they were there. They didn't deserve the vicious treatment from whacko-woman.
Morals of this episode:
It doesn't matter how long you've camped somewhere. It's rude to ask people to move for your convenience or because you didn't plan ahead.
It's also rude to ask them to break the park rules for your convenience or lack of planning.
It's downright wrong and even illegal to badger and bully someone to get your way. You're not the only camper there and the world doesn't revolve around you.
