CAMPGROUND PIGS

I've been visiting a lot of National Parks lately and have been astonished at how people trash the facilities, Specifically, the camp sink and restrooms.
Camp sinks routinely have food scraps in them and one had 1 foot of backed up water with food floating around. Lately its been scrambled eggs and bacon grease in the sink. I always wipe my pots and dishes with a paper towel and leave no food scraps. How hard is that to do?
Also, a lot of overflowing toilets and an overflowing urinal. Someone had to put something down that urinal to accomplish that.
Anyone else encounter this?
Rant is over.

I have been "camping" RV'g for a long time. I have watched this problem grow over the years. I don't know what to attribute it to, other than lack of training at home. Same for lack of respect for other peoples property, excessive noise, barking dogs etc. I don't look for it to change any time soon.
Oh yes it will. It's going to get continually worse with each generation. Think about it. Those very same people are having kids and grandkids. From whom are they going to learn respect? :E
  • We camp a lot and yes, it has slowly gotten worse and worse.
But, I have also noticed that it's especially bad during the big three "camping" holidays...(Labor Day, Memorial Day, The 4th).

Those weekends seem to bring out especially bad behavior. We avoid them and do our grilling in the back yard.
  • When our " neighbors " left their spot last week, they left bags of dog poop ( surprised they actually picked it up, so that's a bonus ), cigarette butts, plastic forks, napkins, and a bunch of other trash. I spent 15 minutes cleaning it up after they left.

I see it as total disrespect for our beautiful Country. Very sad and disheartening.
  • It's not limited to the bathhouse. People behind us pulled out today, fire pit smoldering and stinking. They had been burning plastic water bottles and trash all weekend. Looked in the fire ring and sitting on top of 6-8" of ash is the dogs dry food. Guess they bumped his bowls in the fire. Grabbed a bucket and put the fire out so I would not have to smell it or get smoked out any longer.

  • People in general can be pigs. Heck, we get the same behavior in the building I work in. And, there's no one in the building but engineers and other "professionals".
  • Over the years as camping/rving has become more popular, those types of problems have gotten to be more common. It's one of the reasons that we prefer to have full hookups and have our own facilities. In our popup days, we managed quite well with state campgrounds (NY, mainly) and private campgrounds but if we were starting out today, having your own toilet is almost a necessity, IMHO.
