Camping in the Rain

We're supposed to head out for the weekend but their calling for a good chance of rain...

So my question is... What do I need to do before pulling the slides in? There will be some water on top of them I'm sure. Will the seals squeegee it off or should I push it off prior to bring things in?

Thanks!

  • We live and camp in the Great North-wet.

  • A quick, cheap way to clear off most of the water is to tie a rope to an old beach towel, throw it over and drag it across. Do it a couple of times, easy peasy
  • Yes, my seals do a good job but I wipe off before pulling them in as others suggested.
  • The slides have seals and bulbs to limit the amount of moisture that can get in at any time in or out. Whether parked or driving down the road very little water should make it past the seals so enjoy your trip. If any water gets past the seals while bringing slides in it will be easy to clean up with an old towel and the moisture on top of the slide will evaporate soon enough.
  • If you have any water pooling on slide, I would push it off. Yes, the wipers (large flap part of seal) are supposed to remove water, as the slide is retracted. If you are fussy, like me, I towel off the slide ends, and slide roof a little, unless still in a continuous rain.

  • The seals, if working properly, will wipe it off. It's the sticks and leaves you need to wipe off.
  • You will want to remove as much as possible before moving the slides. That is one good reason for slide toppers.
