A recent thread spoke of traveling to US cities named after cities in other countries. We took trips to visit planetariums around the country and went to star parties (an astronomy thing). Factory tours. We've been to: Corvette factory in Bowling Green KYBoeing in Everett WAZippo Lighters and Case Knives in Bradford PA Cutco KaBar Knife Factory in Olean, NYBush Beans in Chestnut Hill TN KFC in Corbin, KY Ford Rouge Factory in Deaborn MI

Yes, I've gone on mining trips (gems and gold), waterfall viewing trips, Fall mountain foliage sightseeing trips, and caving (show caves, not spelunking) trips and explore area sushi bar trips (if near major cities).But one of my favorite "theme" trips is the go deep in the mountains, relax and view wildlife trips. 2 of my favorite places to do this are Cataloochee (in GSMNP - booked this Oct.) and Upper Chattahoochee River (N. Ga mountains, near Helen, Ga - last Oct. ) Various places in Arkansas are right up there too. Chip

We try to have a theme for our trips. It may be an area or National park but it seems to make it more interesting. A couple of years ago we were planning a long trip, they are usually 6 weeks or so then we start missing the kids and grand kids. We had been through most of the states but still had the top left corner to get to, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, N Dakota. So we started planning. That very night a Lewis and Clark special was on and we watched it. That set our theme for the trip. They covered all the states we wanted to see. We made our way to St Louis, under the arch was the first of many L&C museums and movie. We headed to St Charles, where they met up and set out up the Missouri River against the flow. We had stacks of books,videos and a radio show Day BY Day that played somewhere in the midwest.It gave a day by day account of their trip. It was amazing to read and listen to the story while you looked at the geographical landmarks that they had passed. We went through Missouri, into Nebraska, S Dakota, North Dakota where they spent the winter of 1804 at Fort Manden. That is where Sacawagea joined the crew. Across North Dakota, following the Missouri river as closely as we could. Then into Montana and Idaho where we crossed the Bitteroot Mts.as they had done. Then through the Columbia river gorge and down into Washington and then Oregon where they spent the winter of 1805 at Fort Clatsup. I have to say it was rather intense,very educational and gave us a real appreciation for what Lewis and Clark and 40 members of their party had accomplished.

Closest we've come is as a secondary reason for traveling an area is to hunt for the best Bar-B-Q.

Not yet but retiring in 18 - 24 mths and plan on visiting at least 48 state capitals.

Over a two year span back in the 60s we visited lighthouses. Great tour.

We have seen most of the hydro electric dams in BC. This took us two summers. Still a few left. We have toured many of them. My girls age 4 and 8 love them. This year we have made a point of stopping at small town museums if they are open. We are also on a mission to stay in as many provincial campgrounds in BC as we can. Not planning our days around this but we are keeping track. Both of us are teachers so we have the time. Fun stuff.

Yup. In the spring we dd the Kentucky burbon trail. That was fun! Beautiul area too. We took all side roads ate in little towns. Still drinking the souvenirs!

Last summer we did New England - chowder tour!
