Dealerships usually come with a general area that the manufacturer won't give another dealer access to.
That's my thought as well- we have a local chain of David Maus dealerships, but I don't think I could buy a VW at the Maus in Orlando and have it serviced at the Maus Kia dealer here.
(Actually, I think he has sold them, but you get the idea).
