You may have a 6800 lb grawr, probably 2400-2600 in actual wt on the rear, so that nets you OVER or close to 4000 lbs of pin hitch wt you can put on the truck. Wiegh the truck, then you trully know what you can carry. Tow ratings are nothing more than a warrenty rating. Your truck is beyond warrenty, so that is not an issue.
You should be able to do this safe and sanely for one trip per say. Current models of the same truck with more hp are rated to tow trailers that heavy. so your truck is not the issue. With lower HP's than current rigs, you will be a bit slower on the road. BUT, as long as you have balanced out the load in the trailer properly, you WILL be safe.
I would tow it, but, I have some personal limits that I tow. You are ont he upper range to slightly above them. Yes a dually would be better, but a 2500 would do the trick.
