what is pin weight? and thanks for the responses folks :) I'm just hoping to make it up to WY and get it parked! any recommendations on things I can do to my truck for the trip to help it out?
Your 2500 Dodge/Cummins has a Dana 70 rear axle. You won't hurt the axle any. However our 2500 trucks have had a 6000-6100 RAWR for decades. That includes tires/wheel and rear spring pack.
You have the truck and trailer so drop by a feed mill/salvage/recycle center/dump/warehouse for a van moving line/truck stop/etc and weigh the trucks front and rear axle. Pay close attention to the truck RAWR as you don't want to go over tire and wheel capacities.
If it was my combo and doing a one shot run I would make sure you have tires and wheels on the rear of the truck with enough capacity to carry the pin load (hitch weight) and take it home. Install bags if it sags too much which I doubt unless your loading every thing in the front of the trailer.
You won't be pulling/carrying anymore weight than the guy with the same truck that uses it to make his living 24/7 for several hundred thousand miles we see every day out here on our highways.
