Cargo Carrier, Not Hitch Mounted

I have an idea here what i'm looking for, but not sure i'm going to be able to figure out exact terminology without some help.

My current TT has a cargo carrier on the rear bumper, it's permanently attached, folds up and down as necessary.

We are looking to upgrade to a new TT this weekend, and one thing so far i've noticed I'm going to miss, is the new one does not have the cargo carrier.

I have a chest to store firewood in that i load on the carrier, and i also put a loaded cooler next to the chest and strap it all down. It's all very convenient, keeps the load out of my TV, and easy to load when backed up to my garage. It's also heavy.

Looking for something bumper mount that will take the weight. I've seen the adapter to bolt on, and then use a hitch mounted system, but it looks to be a 200lb max on that setup.

If there's no solution, what does everyone else do with firewood, coolers, etc.....

  • All these options sound like a lot of work!

Was hoping for a bolt on option.

So for the most part, everyone is loading their TV with all their camping needs? I don't know what my hang up is, i prefer to just tow it all instead.
  • On my 5er and old TT, I welded a piece of square tubing to the bottom of the frame on each side. The tubing had a 5/8" hole in the middle. These then act as dual receivers. I had a tray with an expanded metal bottom laid in a angle iron frame welded on square tubing to fit into the trailer tubes. I used 5/8" shoulder bolts with nylon lock nuts for the fasteners. I could remove it and had a ball mount to pull my 14' alum fishing boat behind both of them. Any metal fabricator shop could handle this.
  • Chances are the trailer chassis and suspension isn’t designed to carry any more than 200 pounds anyway…

Since balance is the most important part of a safe trailer tow your idea isn’t a very good one to begin with… maybe you just got lucky with the old one…

Hauling firewood any distance is becoming a thing of the past as more bans are put in place and more invasive pest are introduced to different timber stands and quickly spread that way…
  • The TT I saw at the last RV show had bumpers barely adequate to attach a bike rack to.
  • Why not put a reciever hitch on the front of your TV if its not to high
so as not to cover the grill :B
  • I'd probably check a metal fab shop to see if they can do something similar to what Sportsmobile does.

Sportsmobile can offer a continental spare tire and a storage box (mainly for a Honda eu2000i generator), both attached to the hitch receiver. Maybe something similar can be done for the TT?
