- westendExplorerI wonder if the Bass Master guys are still running on Carlisle's? I would assume that a few failures and flipped tournament boats would make for a brand change.
FWIW, I'm rolling on ST205-15-load D RH and haven't had any issues. - dave54Nomad

In 2004 the EPA banned several chemicals used in rubber production, sending the manufacturers scrambling to reformulate and come up with methods of making a broad range of rubber products, not just tires. It took a few years to get the reformulation perfected. In those intervening years EVERY tire company had an increase in defective and failed tires. I would be interested in seeing the manufacture date of all the claimed failures on this website. Carlisle also sells more tires than anyone else so it stands to reason they have more failures. I would also be interested seeing the failure rate expressed as per hundred thousand miles driven.
Some here may remember the same issue with automotive paints in 1989-1990. The EPA banned several chemicals in auto paint and the manufacturers put out some bad paints for a few years until they figured out how to make good paint without the banned chemicals. You still see a few of those 1989-1990 cars on the road with big strips of peeled paint on the roof and hoods. - dkreuzenExplorerOver the last 13 years I have had many trailer tires between my boat trailer and car trailer. In 2002 the new boat trailer had new Carlisle tires and they lasted almost a year before 3 out of 6 separated. Replaced with Tow-Master (Greenball) and said I would never buy another Carlisle tire. Over the next few years that trailer had two tires replaced from road damage and were replaced with Carlisle's because that's all that was available at that time. Those tires are still on the trailer now and look fine but they are way past time for replacement. The boat is stored inside and only gets maybe 100 miles a year on it nor does it get over 35 mph.
In 2004 the new car trailer came with Tow-Master tires which lasted about 18 months before one separated. I replaced all 4 and purchased warranties for them. Over the next 8 years including a new trailer in 2007 (that came with Tow-Master tires) I never got much more than about 18 months out of a set of tires before one separated. Always replaced all 4 under the warranty, always Tow-Master because the warranty paid for them and there was no other options at the time. In early 2012 it was time again and the dealer was no longer handling Tow-Master but had the new improved Carlisle RH. I was very hesitant but he was the store manager and gave me his personal guarantee that if they went bad he would replace them with whatever I wanted at no cost so I went for it. This trailer is stored outside (but covered) and gets 2000-6000 miles on it a year. So far the Carlisle's have not had any issues and I am well past my normal 18 month cycle. When I made the swap I added a second spare tire to the trailer because I expected a problem. It's a good thing I did as I have loaned out both spares to a friend I was traveling with when he lost two new "Commander" tires on his trailer.
So I guess I can recommend the Carlisle RH tires. - jerem0621Explorer III can't comment on the Carlisle tires. It sounds like they are making a great product and that is simply a good thing for us RV'ers.
I had 15 year old Goodyear Marathon ST's when we bought out last TT...Came time to replace them and I HAD to have Maxxis... My local tire dealer told me that the Maxxis are not carried in stock but he would order them. No problem. He didn't pressure me with his house brand...I can't remember what they are. My dealer made sure my Maxxis were less than 6 months old per my request. I made a huge mistake and only ordered 4 Maxxis ST tires. Two days before the big trip I relized my mistake and called my tire dealer. He installed a house brand as a spare...( same tires he personally runs on his Fiver and I hit the road.) the name was an off brand name.
The Maxxis served me well , many many miles towing...I am a stickler for the walk around and made sure that I did...every single time I stopped. This included when I parked at the campground.
I once had a nail penetrate one of my Maxxis tires...I thought these things were bullet proof. Ahh well, I threw the Chineese tire on there and enjoyed the rest of my trip. I fixed the Maxxis tire but used it as a spare and ran the China tire as a primary tire. Never a single problem.
Like I said, I never had a problem with the Maxxis tires, or the Chinese tire... Would I buy Maxxis again? Yes I would. I do know that My friend had two Goodyear Marathons destroy themselves in the 100° heat while towing. I ran the same route and the same roads. The Maxxis NEVER blinked. Not once.
I'm glad we have more options now, Maxxis are not perfect and have had reported failures. I am sure that all brands do at some point.
Thanks for the post OP..

Carlisle completed testing of the RH tires in late '11. The RH may have hit the streets in '12 so its going to take several years and many miles on all types of trailering forums (including RVs) using all sizes/load ranges of RH's before any across the board recommendations can be made one way or the other on any P/ST or LT.
Just because a handful on RV.net members with small trailers have had no issues doesn't mean anything. Hell we have some who swear by just about any brand ST tire out here or even the old Carlisle bias ply tires.
I'm not any tire hater (sounds like high school boy talk) but I'm wise enough to use the power of the net to make a informed decision about any tire brand/type and not just depend on one rv forum.
When we can read on all the many trailering forums (including rv forums) how much the RHs have improved from owners using all sizes/load ranges of the RHs then Carlisle may have a winner and help loose their present image with their many present and previous victims.
Luck to Carlisle as they sure need it.
You have to to love the back handed compliments! They MAY BE THE GREATEST but GOOD LUCK THEY WILL NEED IT.
BTW-"Tire Hater" may be high school talk to you but that is exactly what we have on this board against Carlisle. It's an accurate term.
You could have saved yourself some typing and just used the last sentence!
Yes, use your Internet searching abilities to find out about products that don't exist anymore including the Carlisle made before 2012. - JIMNLINExplorer IIICarlisle completed testing of the RH tires in late '11. Luck to Carlisle as they sure need it. - MNRonExplorerI bought a used 14k lb 5er last spring with 2yr old Carlisle RH LRF's on it. We've pulled 3-4k miles with them so far and I'm very pleased. Hope they last another 2-3yrs and 20-30k miles. If they do, I'll replace with same.
- RinconVTRExplorerSomeone within these 4 pages someone asked about costs. My 205/75 R14 were $83. Four my 6x14' enclosed trailer that runs 205/75 R15 they are $100...but that trailer is still running the OEM china tires.
I'm not sure how I'm perceived here having posted the speed rating of this series of tire and being an owner of them, but I can tell you I am not biased to any single brand. But I have a lot more experience with one, than all others.
I (we) have run Carlisle tires for every single trailer tire replacement since I was towing as kid with my Dad. Why? Simple. They are always found at any "Fleet Farm" or "Farm and Fleet" throughout Wisconsin for fair prices.
So that's how we made our decision for many, many decades. And before that, my grandfather towed his family around with some looking bias ply's and he too claims not a single trailer tire failure. But he did have many RV tire problems on his ol'Allegro. Go figure.
So, within 3 generations of my family towing campers and RV'ing, not one trailer tire failure, even when running the known "china bombs" people hate on here for years and years. Obviously there is some luck mixed in here, but that doesn't take away from the facts.
My point of sharing all that is, blanket statements seldom hold any weight. They rarely apply to the masses. And thus strong opinionated blanket statements are what ruin so many decent threads on here, and other forums too. I like people with strong opinions, but reasoning as to how they came to their strong conclusion is also needed, or its just BS bar room talk that is forgotten the next day. - CKNSLSExplorerShakyjay-
That's what tire threads have become on this forum. We have "haters" who claim a company coverup to simply "rename" their products, and others who recommend tires that the quality of the tires MAYBE as dubious as the tires they hate.
Tire threads on this forum have become ridiculous! - shakyjayExplorer III put a set on about 1 1/2 years ago and so far they have been great. I do check my tires regularly and run them at max inflation.
Interesting that on another recent thread a poster identified himself as a tire dealer and stated that they had seen several blow outs with Maxxis. One of the posters here with his comments in that thread essentially disputed his claim.
