Consumer reports did some work with Dyson vacs and found them over priced garbage IIRC.
Kind of like Bose, charge a premium and people will think they are getting something special.
You can get power head attachments for carpet for any central vac.
I just checked out consumer report web site. I saw nothing negative written by them about the Dyson, especially the stick vacs. They do balk at the price but if you could find me a compatible stick vac that comes apart easily for storage, coverts to a small hand held style vac for stairs and is capable of accepting tools such as a crevice tool, soil brush, dusting brush and hose, let me know and I'll add that to the mix. This cordless stick vac is the closet comparison to a central vac with its versatility and available tools.
